Current Projects

First off, I would like to apologize to my readers for not updating this blog more frequently.  The reason for my absence has been that I accepted a new role helping to launch a research and development lab for the National Association of REALTORS. Since then (October 2015), I have focused 100% of my time making CRT Labs as successful as possible.

The new lab has been an incredible opportunity for me and I’ve enjoyed my new role greatly. Below are just a few of the projects I’ve been working on:

Blockchain Research

For the past 12 months, I have been building dozens of blockchain prototypes and smart contract substitutions for traditional real estate business models (title registry, deed transfer, escrow) to demonstrate opportunities for association advancement and to identify areas within the real estate industry at risk of disruption. Some projects and presentations below:

Indoor Air Quality

The goal for this project is to make information about the air people breathe more accessible. While the prevailing thought has been that outdoor air quality – especially in cities – is worse than indoor, did you know that the reverse can actually be true? In fact, the EPA estimates that indoor air quality can be two-to-five times worse than outdoors in some places, which is especially troubling considering we spent most of our time indoors. My initial tweet about this project got 35,000 impressions in the first day and requests from dozens of universities and even interest from NASA for access to prototypes of our air quality boards.

Rosetta Home

Rosetta Home 2.0 is an open source Apache 2.0 licensed home automation system built with security and privacy in mind. This means it has an offline first mentality, no internet required. Cloud connectivity is optional for data backup and more in-depth data analysis. You are not locked into any one cloud provider, as we offer support for multiple backends.
